Ganesh Prasad Timilsina was born in 1961 in Ramja Deurali of Parbat District into a middle-class farming family. He completed his SLC in 1980 from Pashupati Secondary School, Ramja, and later pursued his bachelor’s degree in Management from Prithvi Narayan Campus, Pokhara.
Timilsina became politically active during the Panchayat era, which led to his imprisonment from 1985 to 1990. After the restoration of multiparty democracy in 1990, he intensified his political activities, becoming elected Chairperson of Ramja Deurali VDC in 1992 and again in 1997. He later became District President.
In 1997, he was elected as an Alternate Central Committee Member of CPN (UML), and later, in the party’s 8th General Convention (2008), he became a Central Member. After the 9th General Convention, he was promoted to Politburo Member and appointed Co-Incharge of Gandaki Province.
Following the Constitution of Nepal 2015, the Federal Parliament was established with two houses. Representing Gandaki Province, Timilsina was elected as the first Chairperson of the National Assembly on 12 March 2018. From grassroots leadership to presiding over the upper house of the Federal Parliament, his contributions to both district and national politics remain significant and commendable.
